Secrets of The Valley, Episode 1: The Lily
by Simon Mitchell

Here's a Cornish Novel with history, mystery, myth and and magic, set in the beatiful Valley of the River Fowey in Cornwall, UK.

An ancient consciousness, trapped in time for over 2000 years is awake in the Valley. It holds a deadly secret that affects us all.

Andrew, a college lecturer, hears this voice of the 'ghost in the woods' and transcribes his amazing story of a consciousness lost in time in the valley.

He discovers there are hidden forces in this most special of places, seeking to exploit the energy matrix of the Earth itself and unbalance the streams of aetherial energies to their own ends.

Andrew is drawn into an adventure where he discovers the Earth energy lines and those who corrupt them.

This is a story set in the Ancient Granite Land of Celtic Cornwall. A billion years ago this land was a migratory trail for the wild beasts of Western Europe. Once the mass of Eurasia was joined. They roamed across the huge land of the European continent.

The tectonic plates shifted and stretched, forming islands, raising proud peninsulas on green water. Boiling lava spewed into the air forming strange shapes and a landscape strewn with granite boulders like the leftovers of a giants' rock fight.

Long before my time the forces of nature battled along the coasts of Western Europe. From the Southwest, the Gulf Stream warmed and opened the land with summer heat. From the north, ice raged and cracked the rock of what would become Cornwall.

Millennia passed, the rivers washed silt to the ocean carving their artistry into the land. The sun's heat raised rain to the sky. Rain succoured the land and ran back to the sea, endless cycles, repeating endlessly.

The land tells me it was an epic struggle. The generous heat of earth, venting her spleen, the wash of the water, cooling, cracking and circulating air. The earth shifted, chasms opened and the sea swept in, submerging areas and separating the islands of Britain and Ireland from the mainland of Eurasia.

A great rift opened up what is now the Bristol Channel and the Irish Sea, separating the land into distinct areas. Many characteristics still connect Brittany, Ireland, Wales, and Cornwall. Their joining can still be seen in place and people. But veins of power run through the land and sea, a hidden matrix of energy criss-crosses the earth and reaches out around our planet.

The Phoenicians, Egyptians and Greeks journeyed to these coasts even before the Iron Age, in search of Keltic wisdom, since long before the time of my youth. The Romans followed the trail of gold and wisdom to Brittany and across the sea to Cornwall, Wales and Ireland. Later, the tin trade followed these routes to and from the Empire and the journeys of wise men and saints to the west of land, the land of setting sun, of Gods and the quest for immortality that haunts us all.

Ships and boats from the French and Spanish coasts sailed to this river, now called Fowey on the south coast of Cornwall in search of trade and journey with the friendly and civilised Keltii, crossing these land routes to Wales and Ireland to avoid the pirates that have ravaged these coasts for millennia.

This land is my memories. For two thousand years this valley has been mine alone. I know every rock, every stream and every tree. I know the forces that shape this land and the people who inhabit it. This land is me.

My story is located here in the Valley of the Fowey. It is a story that I have not been able to tell until now.

Who am I? A ghost; once a boy called Fintan, born 2000 years ago and lost in the matrix of time and nature until now, with a secret that has changed the course of history on the face of Earth. It starts here:

Long ago, by the river, a man gave me something quite by accident, a small sprig of Lily of the Valley. It was a gift from his mother for his safe return to Jerusalem. This is the gift that gave me the power to heal, and the power to see the energies that run through the Earth - and what has been done to them.

But publishing my story starts with finding a friend, Andrew, to reveal this secret that has been hidden in the land of the Fowey Valley for too long. This trilogy is called 'Secrets of the Valley', and the first episode 'The Lily' chronicles my first life, as Fintan the tanner who became a healer, 2000 years ago and some of my discoveries in jumping through time.
