Humming Solfeggio

Most musical instruments can be used for their healing qualities and the same applies to the human voice. Just by humming or singing you are setting off frequencies and vibrations inside your body that can shift perception and alter physiology. I found this out during one of my work avoidance breaks.

I hadn't heard of people using tuning forks for healing but a conversation with a practitioner got me interested. She was using specifically tuned forks, placed on chosen crystals and positioned on parts of the body's meridian system.  Since my grandfather was a piano tuner and he used to take me to tune the concert piano at Rugby School, I felt an affinity with this alternative therapy.

The same day I came across something called the Solfeggio scale frequencies. This is a scale based on different frequecies to our 'Do,re,mi,for,so,la,ti,do'. I had read that these were 'mystical' frequencies that had a special vibration, and that manuscripts written in this scale had gone missing from a catholic collection. The frequencies are:

a.mp3 = UT 396 Hz
b.mp3 = RE 417 Hz
c.mp3 = ME 528 Hz
d.mp3 = FA 639 Hz
e.mp3 = SOL 741 Hz
f.mp3 = LA 852 Hz

I downloaded a free trial guitar tuning software and proceeded to tune my guitar to these frequencies. They were far too high and I broke string in the attempt.

The guitar would only tune in on the 24th fret but I managed to tune it to a lower octave. It worked on the 12th fret, but the fretboard didn't reveal much. The harmonics worked, and the open strings, so I sampled all the sounds I had and made my first piece of healing music. It is kinda weird ! The frequencies on the tuner certainly have a 'clearing effect'. The piece of music does build some interesting internal harmonics.

But what is more effective is humming the notes along with the tuner. It really does clear the sinuses and make the head feel brighter. I can't reach the top note and have to sing a lower version of it. Try it out for yourself (above)!

Later on when I was more geared up for MP3, I made 10 second recordings of each frequency using a wave generator. To access the tones now I just put them on my MP3 player on a loop, or play them all in sequence and hum along with each as best I can. I have put these as linked mp3 files above. To save them to your own computer simply right click and 'save target / file as ...' Please let me know if you do anything interesting with them and I'll incude it in this article.
